Central School HSA Committees

SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S CLASS!

The Central School HSA is a terrific way to become more involved in your child’s elementary school experience and become part of the Central School Community. We have opportunities for people who want to be actively involved, at all levels of time commitment. Even if you’ve never “chaired” a committee, the HSA will help! 

5th Grade Coordinators

Description:  

These parents are responsible for organizing the events for the 5th Grade including the Haunted House, Pool Party, Graduation, the yearbook and other graduation events.

 
Autumn Fun Day

Description:  

Build scarecrows, eat cider donuts, drink apple cider... celebrate Autumn!

 
Bagel Day

Description:  

Organize monthly bagel lunch days and half-day bagel days with local bagel shop. This includes collecting money, placing orders and organizing distribution.

 
Book Fair

Description:  

These two volunteers organize this event with local bookstore. Usually held in the late Fall.

 
Class Parent Liaison

Description:  

This parent serves as the liaison between the H.S.A. Board and the class moms. For example, they communicate information that needs to be passed to the classes.

Dance

The Dance Committee is made up of three parents who coordinate the Dance Program

 
Fall Social

Description:  

This is an annual Central School parent and teacher social, usually held in October or November. This committee organizes the food, decorations and entertainment.

 
Family Fun Fair

Description:  

This event takes place in June and is an evening all-school event. Volunteers organize activities, food and special booths. There is also a movie under the stars or music and dancing!

 
Family Game Night

Description:  

This person organizes a fun night for Central families. Examples of past events are puzzle night and bingo night. Event usually is held in January and includes prizes and refreshments.

This event, usually held during school hours, gives students the chance to do their holiday shopping. Coordinators shop and inventory items to sell, coordinate volunteers, set up, and  clean up

Ice Cream Day

Description:  

Keep track of customers, purchase product, organize parent volunteers to serve ice cream in lunch room, and maintain process month-to-month.

 
Learning Center/Library Volunteers

Description:  

There are two volunteers who chair this committee: Media Center Trainer, who trains the library volunteers on the library's computer system, and Media Center Scheduler who prepares the volunteer schedule.
A library volunteer assists the children with checking out library books at the Central School library. The check-out process is all computerized. By volunteering in the library, you have an opportunity to work with your child's class as well as allow Mrs. Kaiser to do some enriching activities with the children and/or to help them find an interesting book. Your volunteer time is 50 minutes and, depending on the number of volunteers for your child's class, generally once a month.

New Family Welcome

Description:  

This committee contacts families new to Central and organizes 1-2 get-togethers during the summer to give parents the chance to learn more about Central and ask questions and to give new students the opportunity to meet a few friends before the school year begins.  This committee also helps the HSA Co-Presidents organize and run the Ice Cream Social for new Kindergartners.

Pizza Day (5th Grade)

5th Grade Parents. Keep track of customers, work with pizza vendor to make/deliver pizzas to school on proper days, organize parent volunteers to serve pizzas in each classroom, and maintain process month-to-month.

 
Read-a-thon/Friends of the Library Liaison

Description:  

The Read-a-thon is a partnership between the Glen Rock Public Library and elementary schools to encourage and incentivize reading.  This person works with the school librarian, Mrs. Kaiser, to organize, publicize and execute this initiative, where students are asked to register for the read-a-thon, collect pledges, and track the number of books they read during the month of March.  Top readers receive awards at a school assembly in the spring, and the school whose students read the most books are recognized by the Friends of the Library, who receive any money raised.

 
Sandwich Day

Description:  

Keep track of Sandwich Day orders, record customers, work with provider to make/deliver sandwich orders on proper days, organize parent volunteers when necessary to deliver products to classrooms, and maintain process month-to-month.

 
School Supplies

Description:  

Email Central teachers so they update their supply lists for the next school year.  Coordinate with School Supply company to post correct lists with pricing and school code on website.  Draft email blast (and reminders) to parents with order information and deadlines.  Coordinate delivery of supply kits to Central in August to ensure correct quantities.  Deliver kits to classrooms (can employ Middle School National Honor Society student(s) to help.

 
Science Fair

Description:  

Coordinate event and set up, maintain list of students participating, organize parent volunteers, work with teachers to schedule class visits and purchase and distribute tri-fold displays.

 
SEPAC

Description:  

Helps organize and attends S.E.P.A.C. meetings and reports back to the HSA.

 
Spirit Wear

Plan slate of Central School clothing and fun items that will be available for order; coordinate sales of these items through the year, ideally once in the fall before holiday and once in the spring.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon

This catered luncheon is for approximately 35 teachers and staff to show our appreciation for all that they do for our children and usually takes place in early May.
